Jon Bon Jovi Reveals the Surprising Way How 'Spirit Sister' Shania Twain Helped Him Through Vocal Surgery

When Jon Bon Jovi encountered vocal cord problems, he sought advice from his close friend Shania Twain, who had dealt with similar issues and undergone the same surgery with the same doctor a few years earlier. The 62-year-old rocker described Twain as his "spirit sister" in navigating this challenge.

In his new Hulu docuseries, "Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story," Bon Jovi reveals that his vocal cord issues surfaced around 2015 but went unaddressed until he had a pivotal conversation with his wife, Dorothea, while on tour in 2022. This conversation forced him to confront the reality of his situation: either seek medical intervention or retire from music.

Bon Jovi reached out to Twain because she had undergone a vocal fold medialization procedure in 2018, performed by the same doctor, Robert Sataloff. He discovered this connection through Twain's public disclosure of her surgery. Speaking about their conversation, Bon Jovi explains that Twain not only reassured him about the procedure's success but also joked about the recovery time, suggesting he might reconsider if he knew how long it would take. However, her encouragement ultimately spurred him to eagerly undergo the operation.

After undergoing surgery in June 2022 to address his vocal cord issues, Bon Jovi experienced relief from the strain on his voice caused by loose vocal cords. In February of 2024, he and Twain celebrated his progress at the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala, where he was honored, and Twain performed a cover of the Bon Jovi hit "Bed of Roses."

Nearly two years post-surgery, Bon Jovi continues to work with vocal coaches and engages in daily voice exercises as part of his ongoing recovery regimen. He describes every day as a part of the recovery process.

The band is set to release its 16th album, "Forever," on June 7. Recorded after Bon Jovi's surgery, the vocals on the album may have a smokier and huskier quality but still unmistakably belong to him. However, his future as a live performer remains uncertain.

"I'm capable of singing. What I'm not necessarily capable of is two and a half hours a night, four nights a week," Bon Jovi explains. "But I'm aspiring to get that back."

The Quran - Chapter Al-Ahqaf : 12 - 14

And before this ˹Quran˺ the Book of Moses was ˹revealed as˺ a guide and mercy. And this Book is a confirmation, in the Arabic tongue, to warn those who do wrong, and as good news to those who do good.

Surely those who say, “Our Lord is Allah,” and then remain steadfast—there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve.

It is they who will be the residents of Paradise, staying there forever, as a reward for what they used to do.

One argument in favour of the veracity of the Quran is that the previous revealed scriptures predicted it.

These predictions are still found in the Bible (Injeel) and the Torah. The Quran thus came as a realisation of earlier divine predictions, giving concrete shape to what had been foreseen many centuries before.

This is a clear indication that the Quran is really a divine Book; otherwise how could it have been possible to give advance information about it hundreds and thousands of years ago?

It is reported on the authority of ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas that verse 13, broadly interpreted, means being steadfast in the discharge of duties attached to Faith. (Tafsir ibn Kathir).

Faith (iman) is a sacred pledge or vow. Time and again, moments of trial occur in the life of a man when he either keeps his pledge of Faith, or he breaks it. On such occasions, one who acts in accordance with his pledge of Faith, shows his steadfastness, while one who fails to do so, shows his lack of devotion.

Those unable to prove their steadfastness are transgressors, while those who prove to be steadfast are the ones who will be lodged in the eternal gardens of Paradise.
