According to a spokesperson for Nara Medical University, Shinzo Abe, 67, was officially pronounced dead after arrival in injured condition for medical assistance. A medical team consisting 20 professionals attempted to stem the bleeding but remains unsuccessful.

Abe was speaking at a campaign rally ahead of Upper House elections when an armed suspect opened fire at him. He has received two bullets one in right side of neck and other stuck deep near his heart.

Police have arrested the suspected gunman identified as Yamagami Tetsuya and recovered a handmade gun from the crime scene. The suspected murderer confessed the crime due to anger.
