Cara Delevingne shares heartfelt insights into her journey towards sobriety, offering support and encouragement to others facing similar challenges. Speaking at the Met Gala on May 6, the 31-year-old supermodel emphasized the importance of communication and honesty in navigating such paths.
"You're not alone," Delevingne assured in an interview with Variety. "If I can do it, anyone can. But you need to communicate and be honest about it as much as you can—especially with yourself."
Reflecting on her approach to handling struggles, Delevingne emphasized the significance of openness and transparency. "I think that’s what I’ve always done with anything in this business," she explained. "Whether it’s been being vocal about anxiety, depression, recovery, anything, it’s just you owe it to people to talk about your struggles, because being in this world is not perfect. No one is perfect. So to be honest, it’s the least I can do."
The Cabaret actress opened up about her journey to recovery, revealing in an interview for the April 2023 cover of Vogue that a wake-up call came in July 2022 when paparazzi photos in Los Angeles prompted her to enter a 12-step program. Attributing her behavior to the pandemic's impact and her milestone 30th birthday, she admitted, "It's heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point it was like, ‘Okay, I don't look well.'" Delevingne reflected on the necessity of a reality check, acknowledging that the photos served as a catalyst for change.
Recognizing the need for a fresh start in both her personal life and career, she took the proactive step of checking herself into rehab the following month.
Not long after openly discussing her path to sobriety, she disclosed to ELLE UK in July 2023 that abstaining from alcohol has proven to be immensely rewarding. "It hasn't been a breeze," remarked the American Horror Story star, "but there hasn't been a single moment where I've questioned its value." Describing her journey, she expressed, "Every moment has been worth it. I can't envision anything that would make me reconsider. I feel grounded. I'm more serene."
Following her candid revelation about her journey, she experienced a sense of liberation, feeling unburdened and able to embrace her true self completely.
The Quran - Chapter Al-Hujurat : 06 - 08
O believers, if an evildoer brings you any news, verify ˹it˺ so you do not harm people unknowingly, becoming regretful for what you have done.
And keep in mind that Allah’s Messenger is ˹still˺ in your midst. If he were to yield to you in many matters, you would surely suffer ˹the consequences˺. But Allah has endeared faith to you, making it appealing in your hearts. And He has made disbelief, rebelliousness, and disobedience detestable to you. Those are the ones rightly guided.
˹This is˺ a bounty and a blessing from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
If anyone provides information about another which takes the form of allegations against the latter, ready acceptance of this news on simply hearing it is absolutely against the precautions imposed by the Faith.
It is essential on the part of the hearer of the news to make the necessary investigation about it, and whatever opinion he forms should be after impartial inquiry and not before.
It frequently happens that when information of this kind is received, there are immediate suggestions of taking punitive action.
This is a case of gross irresponsibility. Nobody should form any opinion about such news before investigation; nor should others suggest direct action without a thorough probe.
Those who tread the path of righteousness and guidance develop an entirely different temperament from those who do not.
They are averse to levelling allegations against others. They prefer to remain silent rather than talk about a supposed misdemeanour which is as yet uninvestigated.
Being of such a nature is an indication of their having been blessed with a share in God’s Graces. The Faith that has really permeated their lives now is being acknowledged in verbal form.
