Robyn Dixon recognizes the difficulties of putting her relationship with her husband Juan Dixon on TV.
“It’s been hard because I understand why we do the things that we do,” Robyn, 44, said at the Real Housewives of Potomac panel BravoCon in Las Vegas on Sunday. “Juan and I started dating when were 17. We’re not only best friends, [our] lives were very intertwined.”
The reality star feels like her and Juan’s “relationship is very different from what is captured.”
“It’s been hard for people not understanding the depth of our relationship,” she continued. “The show brought us together because of all the scrutiny. So we were forced to really have each other’s back.”
In Sunday’s season premiere, the couple faced affair rumors and even more negative talk.
At BravoCon, Robyn admitted that criticism from viewers does affect their marriage. “It’s the outside noise that really tears each other apart,” she said.
Sometimes, the noise comes from the inside. “So Karen’s obsessed with me and it’s hilarious,” Robyn told of costar Karen Huger. “And I love, like, we actually have a banter. We go back and forth a lot.”
Robyn said she can’t take Huger, 60, seriously.
“Everything that comes out of Karen’s mouth when she’s being critical is such a joke because, like, she’s the one that we need to be criticizing,” the mom of two said.
When Huger spoke at BravoCon, she said she “enjoyed the conversations” she had with Robyn on the show.
“I enjoyed all the girls,” Huger said. “I can go into … even when our group is divided, I can go into both camps. You know, they say I hump the fence. No, darling. You hence my tagline. I got sick of them saying that. So I said I am the fence, I own the fence. You ride me, and it’s true.”
Huger did, however, call out Robyn for keeping the discussion of her husband’s cheating rumors off the show. (Juan eventually confirmed that he cheated during the pandemic.)
“We got people lying about their truth in season 7 and I’m finding out about it in season 8 and selling it behind a paywall for profit,” Huger said. “No, darling. We’re gonna answer the questions. We’re gonna have conversations.”
Huger agreed that she gave Robyn’s fans a nickname, but asked, “Where are they?”
Robyn and the former NBA player — who share teenage sons Corey and Carter — revealed in the season finale of RHOP that they got remarried after divorcing in 2012. The couple wanted to keep the nuptials simple.
“The thought of an actual wedding and all the pomp and circumstances that come with it, that doesn’t excite me,” Robyn said in a confessional interview. “It just feels more special to do it privately, without worrying about everyone else and how they perceive it.”
According to the Real Housewife, her kids never realized that their parents split.
“My kids, they didn’t even realize we were divorced,” Dixon recalled in a video for Bravo’s The Daily Dish. “They didn’t know we had gone through a rough time! They found out a lot of stuff about our relationship and our family from the show, because their friends are telling them. So then they come and tell us, ‘So why this? Why that?’ So I’d have to tell them, ‘We’re good, aren’t we? We’re good! Don’t worry about that.’”
The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo. BravoCon 2023 took place through Sunday at Caesars Forum in Las Vegas.
